Yesterday there was a fire at Leesylvania State Park. Nothing big, but enough to have the Prince William Fire Department up there at 6 AM working on it. I got to work at 8 like normal, got yelled at, then went to watch the guys work for the rest of the day. Kinda cool, except for the getting yelled at part.
So today the first thing I do is go check on the fire. Everything looks kosher. Nothing has jumped the line, not a lot of large debris to worry about catching...looks pretty tame actually. Kinda like a boy scout fire the morning after a campout...only 2 acres big. My boss however disagrees. With me. And the guy who has worked for 3 years as a wildland firefighter. So what do I get to do all day today, but babysit a burned out fire. Oh, and did I mention the heat index was 105 today? And the ground is still hot enough to ignite? Yeah, fun times. Heres what my legs looked like when I got home from work:
Yuck! At least I got a 30 minute break to eat lunch :-(
