As you've probably heard, the months of November through March are generally referred to as "winter". Here in Virginia, that usually consists of some cold temperatures, but nothing to extreme, and some ice. Since moving from Blacksburg, I think I've seen 2 feet of snow. Total. In 5 years.

This year however, is different. We're actually experiencing winter this year. The temps have been cold, sometimes not getting above freezing, and we've had snow. And not just a few dustings here and there, but real honest to god snow. Its been fantastic.

It all kicked off on Dec 19th/20th, when we recieved almost 20 inches of snow. See earlier post for photos. It was awesome. No work, no school, lots of play time. Unfortunately, lots of shoveling, but thats ok too. Thats all part of getting snow.

Then a few weeks later, we had a couple of inches here and there. Not enough to really be noteworthy, but enough to cause minor disruption in this "southern" state. Jan 31st was our next significant snow, dumping about 6 inches on the area. Just a few days later, we got another 4 inches Feb 2nd. To say the least, this has not been normal.

Now we're prepping for yet another whallop, starting today around noon. Believe it or not, forecasters are telling us to expect 20-30 inches of snow. In DC. How crazy is that?!? Let me tell you, its crazy. Grocery stores were running out of meat (yes all MEAT). Traffic was gridlocked around every store. It was total chaos. Schools closing the day before a storm. The federal government shutting down before a flake falls. Its insanity here.

But we're ready. We've got plenty of food (as always), plenty of beer (as always), and plenty of room for pictures on the camera. Here are a few shots of the last few storms. Enjoy, and look for more once the snow starts falling again!
